Wood Burning Rule Amendment Workshops - 2015
In March and April, the Air District is holding a series of nine workshops to discuss proposed amendments to its Wood Burning Rule. These amendments are designed enhance the rule's effectiveness at protecting public health in the Bay Area. The workshop schedule and proposed amendments are available online.
Winter Spare the Air
The 2014-15 Winter Spare the Air season ended on February 28. The next Winter Spare the Air season begins on November 1, 2015.
Residents who use their fireplaces, woodstoves or outdoor fire pits must still burn cleanly using dry, seasoned firewood, and must not burn garbage, leaves or other material that would cause excessive smoke. Residents who exceed the visible smoke provision in the wood-burning rule could still be subject to a ticket, even outside the November-February Winter Spare the Air season.
Wood smoke concerns can be reported by calling 1-877-4NO-BURN (1-877-466-2876).
Spare the Air Alerts
Residents who signed up for Winter Spare the Air phone or email alerts will remain on the list to receive calls or emails when the next Winter Spare the Air season begins November 1, 2015.
Residents who signed up for e-mail AirAlerts will also receive e-mails when Spare the Air Alerts are called during the 2015 Summer Spare the Air season.
The iPhone and Android apps and Spare the Air widget will also provide alerts when summer Spare the Air Alerts are called.
