Sonoma County

The Sonoma Spare the Air Resource Team in 2011 is supporting early work on a pilot dynamic rideshare program for Sonoma County that will pay drivers to carpool and allow drivers and riders to connect within minutes by smart phone or the web. The Resource Team's support will allow the counties to hold focus groups and convene experts to craft this innovative pilot program.

The team funded Walk and Roll to School Day banners for Sonoma County schools, helped fund flyers to promote Santa Rosa's 10-10-10 CAReFREE SUNDAY STREET SCENE, and supported an event-greening workshop in Santa Rosa.

The Team is investigating other projects to pursue in the coming year.

In recent years, the Team has supported efforts to reduce traffic congestion at schools. In 2010, through member organizations Safe Routes to School and the Climate Protection Campaign, it helped parents in the Oak Grove Union School District cope with the loss of school busing by conducting a walking audit, surveying parents and hosting meetings and ice cream socials to share information on walking, biking and carpooling. It has supported student campaigns at Analy and Windsor High Schools to reduce solo driving and the resulting greenhouse gas emissions.

If you would like to join the team in its efforts to reduce traffic and increase safety at schools, please contact Ariel Ambruster at aambruster@communityfocus.org or 510-763-2500 ext. 5.
