The Sonoma County Spare the Air Resource Team is exploring ways to address the challenge Sonoma County residents face when accessing and coordinating the various options for using alternative transportation – alternatives to driving alone - in their daily lives. The team is convening a group of like-minded professionals in the county to hear their perspectives.
The Resource Team recently wrapped up a project with the Junior College Neighborhood Association in Santa Rosa to gauge interest in and promote peer-to-peer car sharing efforts in the area. Car-sharing encourages more efficient use of vehicles that can lead to cleaner air and greater use of alternative commuting options. It also can provide supplemental income to car owners.
The Resource Team hosted two focus groups to learn how local car owners and non-car owning residents feel about this form of community car-sharing. The Resource Team distributed informational door-hangers and an online survey designed to spread the word that car-sharing is already available in Santa Rosa, and to help determine the viability of car-sharing in the area.
