San Francisco County
The San Francisco Spare the Air Resource Team is working to encourage visitors to San Francisco to use transit rather than drive. The Team developed a website at sfcarfree.org with information about how to get to, and around, San Francisco without a car. The Guide to Riding BART and Muni helps those new to transit feel comfortable navigating these transit systems.
The Team developed the Fit-Trips Challenge to highlight the health and wellness benefits of using alternatives to driving alone – to get to work, school, and around town – by using a FitBit Flex. The Team has recruited commuters to try walking, biking, carpooling, and taking transit or shuttles to increase activity, lower stress levels, and help Spare the Air. Commuters can also save money on gas and parking using these alternatives to driving alone. The Team will use testimonials gathered through the Fit-Trips Challenge on the Spare the Air and partner organization websites to motivate others to get active.
