Free Transit Day on June 19On Thursday, June 19, the Air District and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission are partnering with the region's 30 transit systems to offer free rides for Bay Area commuters. Transit will be free all day on Bay Area bus and light-rail systems, and until 12 noon on BART, trains (Caltrain, ACE, and Capitol Corridor), and ferries (Golden Gate, Alameda, and Vallejo). For a full list of participating transit providers, see below. This free transit day coincides with the third annual Dump the Pump Day, a national promotion sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association. A planned free transit day will allow Bay Area commuters to make plans for their commute - to adjust their schedules, get a transit buddy, or find the closest bus, train, or BART station. Spare the Air Every Day Tips
Take transit - The Bay Area has many transit options. Use it and you may save gas, money and stress. Walk or ride – Walking or riding a bike to commute or run errands saves gas and money AND it improves your health too! Link your trips – Group your errands. You'll save gas and time by eliminating extra trips. Stay steady – Minimize pedal and break changes with a steady speedometer and improve gas mileage by 33% on the highway!
Select safe products - Use nontoxic, non-aerosol cleaning and beauty products to improve indoor air quality and your health.
Power down - Reducing electricity use saves money and the environment. Use energy-efficient bulbs and powerstrips for appliances and electronics. Turn them off when you're not using them. Buy Local – The shorter the trip to get to you, the less gas it requires.
