The Napa Valley Clean Air Coalition has established the second car free tourism project in California — see www.napavalleycarfree.info! Napa Valley Car Free will launch in 2006. The site is designed to help tourists to the Napa Valley find more environmentally friendly ways to tour. The site promotes use of van services, biking and walking. It is hoped that the web site will help promote tourism to the Napa Valley while also reducing the amount of congestion in the Valley. Growing traffic congestion in the Valley threatens the very vineyards that tourists come to see.
In 2005, the first Great Race for Clean Air successfully engaged residents from throughout the Bay Area to use four modes of alternative transportation in four weeks. Teams from around the Bay raced to Pleasanton on October 6, 2005 to highlight creative and timely use of the multi-modal transit options that exist around the Bay. See the 2005 Team Napa/Solano County!
The Napa Valley Clean Air Coalition continues to offer incentive funds for Napa employers who wish to start additional vanpools or carpools from their worksites.
If you would like to join the team in its efforts to reduce traffic congestion in the Napa Valley, please call Jim Smith at (415) 749-4631.
