Spare the Air Youth

Created in partnership with the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, Spare the Air Youth aims to inspire Bay Area youth and their families to change their transportation habits to improve air quality and reduce vehicle miles traveled.

The program focuses on educating students about the benefits of walking, biking, carpooling, or taking transit.

In 2014, Spare the Air Youth began organizing the annual Youth for the Environment and Sustainability (YES) Conference. The event brings together students, teachers, and youth leaders from around to Bay Area to discuss transportation issues, impacts from climate change, and ways to encourage everyone to select modes other than driving solo. The day typically features session presentations and provides a forum for students to connect as peers and share their environmental and sustainability ideas.

Throughout the year, Spare the Air Youth partners with Safe Routes to School throughout all nine Bay Area counties to promote collaboration and support outreach and engagement efforts.

The Spare the Air Youth program also provides useful and interesting materials for students, such as the the Spare the Air Kids Activity Book.
