Spare the Air Text Alerts

Sign up for Spare the Air Text Alerts to find out when air quality is forecast to be unhealthy in the Bay Area.

To sign up, text the word “START” to the number 817-57. Then you will receive a text asking you to sign up for Summer Spare the Air Alerts, Winter Spare the Air Alerts, or both Summer and Winter Spare the Air Alerts.

Summer Spare the Air Alerts notify you when ozone levels are forecast to be unhealthy, between the beginning of March and the end of October.  Winter Spare the Air Alerts notify you when fine particle levels are forecast to be unhealthy and it is illegal to burn wood in your fireplace or wood stove, from November through the end of February.

SMS Alert System Terms of Use: Message frequency will vary. Subscribers are expected to receive an estimated 1-15 texts per month, although potentially more, depending on how weather patterns and natural occurrences influence the number of poor air quality days in the Bay Area.
